Abstract

This editorial novelty is part of a research project on the use of granite stone in the Monumental Heritage of the south-western area of Castilla y León. It focuses on the use of granitic stone in the architecture of Salamanca, highlighting its resistance and its combination with the Villamayor sandstone in some cases.

The first part of the book addresses the conservation and restoration of the stone. A second part is focused on research related to the use of stone materials in monumental heritage, such as the use of granite in Ávila, the symbolism of porphyry in a royal project, and the ornamental use of stone in the Cinco Llagas hospital. , among other topics. The third section focuses on the study of historical quarries and stone transportation, including studies on granite quarries in the Ávila area, geotourism itineraries, milestones on the Via de la Plata, quarries in Bailén, marbled limestones in Espejón, and the use of oxen in stone transportation. The routes and paths of the Modern Age are also reviewed.
