Wikidata for the documentation and visibility of heritage: the National Network of Silos and Granaries

The National Network of Silos and Granaries was a project developed in Spain to build structures for storing cereals. Many of them still stand today as part of the country’s industrial heritage. This paper describes the methodology used to store information about each building in an open, freely editable knowledge base. A total of 953 items were created in Wikidata, including data such as name, location, images, year of commissioning, and status. Categories were also created in Wikimedia Commons and pages in Wikipedia with interactive maps. The article offers structured access to these buildings and encourages researchers to contribute their own datasets.
