The artistic activity in Valladolid between the late nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century remains insufficiently researched, beyond the major masters who achieved national recognition. This article seeks to recover the figure of the painter, decorator, stage designer, and restorer Mariano García Maestro, a completely overlooked artist who was known exclusively as the author of the mural paintings in the church of the Augustinian Friars of the Philippines, the processional float of Nuestra Señora de la Piedad, and the restoration of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno.
