Abstract

Art historians have wonder about the delivery of artworks as gifts, as well as the journeys of portraits with matrimonial purposes in the context of marriage alliances between different courts. It is worth enquiring what impact could have had these works on the neighbouring kingdom, considering their artistic value. The finding of a letter from the French ambassador Simon Renard to the Emperor Charles V in the General Archive of Simancas suggests the presence of an unknown Italian portraitist in England, raising new issues on this topic.
