This book analyzes the classicist or Romanist renovation of sculpture in the city of Tarazona (Zaragoza) between 1580 and 1630. Romanism constitutes the reflection of the new trends imposed in the northern half of the Spain after the creation of the main altarpiece (1558-1563) of the Astorga cathedral, with the application of an architectural repertoire taken from the treatise of Vignola and the plastic language developed by Michelangelo. In Aragonese lands, Romanist sculpture had one of its main centres in the Calatayud region, belonging to the Turiasonense bishopric, although its headquarters also had local and foreign interesting architects who are studied in this monograph.
